Peter Obi mocks Tinubu

In a recent statement, Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, has sharply criticized President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, suggesting that he deserves a place in the Guinness World Records for “causing the most hardship to Nigerians.” In an interview with Vanguard, the former Governor of Anambra State expressed that Tinubu’s record since taking office in May 2023 should be judged by Nigerians themselves.

Responding to Tinubu’s previous claim that his performance as head of state deserved global recognition, Obi sarcastically commented on the nature of achievements that could be recorded in the famous register. “He might be right to think that his name deserves a spot in the Guinness World Records. But let’s remember that not all entries in that book are commendable,” he noted, implying that if it were for causing unprecedented distress among Nigerians, then Tinubu’s claim would be justified.

Besides these criticisms, Obi also shared his analysis of the 2023 general elections, highlighting a renewed commitment among Nigerians, especially the youth, towards good governance. According to him, this mobilization demonstrates that contrary to common belief, the population is not apathetic towards national politics. However, he laments a certain indifference among the elites, including electoral actors, towards ethical and effective governance.

Discussing the record of Tinubu’s administration, Obi preferred to refer the question to the Nigerian people, mentioning the daily challenges they face. “Ask Nigerians how they are getting by today,” he suggested, alluding to the increasing precariousness and economic uncertainty prevailing in the country.

Peter Obi concludes by indicating that his interest now lies in current and future governance issues, thus showing a desire to move beyond past elections to focus on the immediate and forthcoming challenges of Nigeria. This stance reaffirms his commitment to improving the national situation despite ongoing political controversies.
