Donald Trump, campaigning in Iowa, reiterated his confidence in his victory in the upcoming November presidential election. Three years after the Capitol assault, and amidst controversies and legal proceedings, Trump remains resolutely optimistic. In a speech lasting over two hours in Newton, the former president criticized Joe Biden, labeling him the “worst” president in U.S. history and mocking his age. Trump, who accuses Biden of “stealing” the 2020 election, is gearing up for the Republican primaries, starting in Iowa.
Meanwhile, Joe Biden, in a campaign speech in Pennsylvania, compared Trump’s rhetoric to that of Nazi Germany, intensifying the political polarization. Despite this, polls show that Trump enjoys solid support, with 60% of the Republican vote, ahead of his main rivals, Nikki Haley and Ron DeSantis. Trump does not hesitate to ridicule his Republican competitors, while affirming his popularity among his loyal supporters.
The January 6th attack on the Capitol remains a deeply divisive issue in the United States. A significant portion of the Trump electorate continues to believe, without evidence, in FBI involvement in the incident. Recent arrests in Florida related to this attack demonstrate the national scope of the investigation.
Trump, however, downplays these events, calling them “hostages” of politics, and denies any incitement to insurrection. He portrays his upcoming criminal trial as yet another hurdle to overcome before the elections. With “Super Tuesday” approaching, where several key states will vote, political tension is rising.
Finally, despite legal and political obstacles, Trump positions himself as America’s savior, warning of a potential “Third World War” and a “Depression” under the current presidency. As the Supreme Court examines the question of his eligibility following the January 6th events, Trump continues to run an energetic campaign, promising to “win for the third time” in November.
