A tragic accident shakes the streets of Lagos: a Dangote truck driver arrested for fatally running over a woman in Lagos. The events leading to this loss of life were recounted by Adebayo Taofiq, Director of the Public Affairs and Education Department of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), in a recently released statement.
According to the information reported by Sahara Reporters, the mixer truck, registered as “Kano MDB 531 XA,” reportedly experienced brake failure, leading to the tragedy near Abule-Egba. The victim, a woman, was fatally crushed near the Mobil filling station, next to the Jubilee Bridge, opposite Zenith Bank, in Lagos.
Taofiq specified that the truck driver was apprehended by LASTMA authorities and handed over to the police for investigation. Efforts to extricate the trapped body from under the Dangote truck were coordinated by LASTMA teams, who then handed over the corpse to the officers at the Oko-Oba police station.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the mixer truck, traveling at high speed, lost control due to brake failure. In its attempt to maneuver to avoid an accident, the truck ended up crushing an innocent woman.
Abdul Salam Nurudeen (Alpha, Zone 19 Abule-Egba/Tollgate) of LASTMA, who supervised the recovery operations, confirmed that his team was supported by other road stakeholders to extract the trapped body from under the truck.
In response to this tragic accident, the Director-General of LASTMA, Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, issued a warning to truck owners and drivers, urging them to ensure that their vehicles undergo systematic checks, including the braking system, before hitting the road within or outside Lagos.
