The Nigerian nation mourns today the passing of former deputy Sidi Ali, which occurred Thursday evening at the age of 86 in the state of Kano. A distinguished statesman and seasoned journalist, he dedicated his life to serving the nation, particularly in the field of public information.
Sidi Ali, a respected and esteemed figure, was also the father of Hakama Sidi Ali, interim director of the corporate communications department of the Central Bank of Nigeria. His contribution to Nigerian political and media life has been of paramount importance, leaving his mark on every field in which he was involved.
Shehu Sanni, a human rights activist and former legislator, expressed deep sorrow at the passing of Sidi Ali. He described him as a “human library,” capable of remembering every event in Nigeria’s history up to independence. His words testify to the significant impact Sidi Ali had on the collective memory of the country.
Throughout his remarkable career, Sidi Ali held various important positions, including at the Nigerian International Press Center, the Ministry of Information, and the National Broadcasting Commission. His political commitment was also evident within the All Progressives Congress, where he was a respected and active member of the elders committee in Kano State.
