President Bola Tinubu is heading to Riyadh, the Saudi capital, to participate in the 2024 Special World Economic Forum on Global Collaboration, Growth, and Energy for Development. This visit marks an important milestone in his busy international agenda, showcasing his commitment to global cooperation and economic development.
More than 1,000 business, government, and university leaders from over 90 countries will gather in Riyadh for this high-level forum. Discussions will focus on the measures taken since the first Growth Summit held in Geneva in 2023. Tinubu and his entourage will take advantage of this opportunity to discuss his renewed hope program for the country, according to statements from the President’s spokesperson, Mr. Ajuri Ngelale.
In Riyadh, leaders will address urgent global challenges, including revitalizing global collaboration, promoting inclusive growth, and catalyzing action on energy for development. According to the SWEF conceptual note, the event serves as a platform to bridge the growing North-South divide exacerbated by emerging economic policies, energy transition, and geopolitical shocks.
This visit to Saudi Arabia marks the second leg of Tinubu’s tour to two countries, following his engagements in The Hague, Netherlands. Saudi Arabia thus becomes his 19th foreign destination since taking office 11 months ago. This frequency of travel illustrates the importance he attaches to international relations and strengthening ties with other nations.
