The discreet landing of Bola Tinubu in France has sparked numerous questions. While the Nigerian presidency remains silent regarding his whereabouts since the closure of the World Economic Forum in Saudi Arabia, speculation abounds about the motivations behind this trip.
According to information gathered by SaharaReporters, Tinubu initially made a stopover in London, England, before heading to France. The stated reason for this undisclosed trip is reportedly medical, as indicated by an anonymous source. A Nigerian presidential aircraft, a Gulfstream Aerospace GV-SP (G550), was reportedly spotted at Paris-Le Bourget airport, carrying Tinubu on board.
This journey comes shortly after the conclusion of the World Economic Forum in Riyadh, where Tinubu was in attendance. However, the presidency remains elusive about the expected date of his return to Nigeria after this international event, as well as his visits to the UK and France.
Efforts to obtain clarifications from presidential representatives have been futile, as they remain unreachable. The lack of transparency surrounding this trip fuels speculation and concerns, especially given Tinubu‘s medical history.
Indeed, prior to the 2023 general elections, the health of the former Lagos governor had already been a major concern for many Nigerians. Earlier reports had revealed that Tinubu had spent several months receiving medical treatment in France, the United States, and the United Kingdom, undergoing multiple surgeries between 2020 and 2022.
The use of the Nigerian presidential aircraft for this journey also confirms Tinubu’s presence on board, according to established protocols. The identity of the aircraft is often altered depending on whether the president or vice president is on board, to avoid confusion and ensure special treatment.
