A tragic event unfolded in Nairobi, where a 20-year-old woman was murdered in an Airbnb apartment located in Roysambu. Police have arrested three individuals in connection with this murder, including a Nigerian national. The Nigerian was apprehended at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport as he attempted to leave Kenya.
Kasarani Police Chief Joseph Muriuki revealed that evidence gathered from CCTV footage and phone records was crucial in tracking the Nigerian suspect. The footage showed the suspect receiving the key to the apartment, and phone data placed him in Ruaka on the evening of the murder.
The other two suspects were taken into custody at the Kasarani Police Headquarters. According to the reports, the victim was killed on Sunday, January 14, 2024. The details released suggest that the suspects murdered the woman, dis-mem-bered her body, and disposed of the pieces in polyethylene bags in the apartment’s dustbin.
A neighbor of one of the suspects, identified as George, was questioned by investigators. George stated that he recognized the suspect from the CCTV footage and subsequently recorded a statement at the DCI headquarters on Kiambu Road. He described the suspect as a calm individual.
Commander Muriuki also mentioned that the victim’s family had not yet been fully informed of all the details of the investigation, partly due to the ongoing search for some parts of the victim’s body.
This case raises concerns about safety in short-term rental accommodations and highlights the challenges faced by authorities in ensuring the safety of tenants and neighbors in these establishments. The community now awaits the progress of the investigation and future legal proceedings.
