Oil traders in Nigeria have registered with the Dangote Petroleum Refinery for the distribution of refined petroleum products. This collaboration represents a major shift in the country’s management of its oil resources. The Dangote Petroleum Refinery, a $20 billion project, recently commenced the production of diesel and aviation fuel.
Located in Lagos, the refinery has a processing capacity of 650,000 barrels of crude oil per day, positioning Nigeria as a key refining player in Africa. Designed to meet stringent international standards, the refinery promises environmentally friendly production.
The Dangote Group, led by Aliko Dangote, has expressed gratitude to President Bola Tinubu for his support in realizing this landmark project. Dangote also thanked Nigerian regulatory authorities and the public for their support in the project, demonstrating Nigeria’s ability to complete large-scale projects.
Major traders, under the umbrella of the Major Oil Marketers Association of Nigeria (MOMAN), have confirmed their registration with the Dangote refinery, ready to distribute fuel once commercial terms are agreed upon. Independent traders, represented by the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN), are also planning to collaborate with the refinery.
The seven key traders include 11 Plc, Conoil Plc, Ardova Plc, MRS Oil Nigeria Plc, OVH Energy Marketing Limited, Total Nigeria Plc, and NNPC Retail. Their involvement ensures efficient and widespread distribution of refined products across the country.
The launch of this refinery is anticipated to significantly reduce the costs of petroleum products in Nigeria. With local production, logistical costs associated with importing refined fuels are expected to decrease, potentially leading to lower prices for consumers. This development is viewed optimistically by experts and Nigerian citizens, who hope for a significant improvement in the national economy and a reduction in the country’s reliance on imported fuel.
