The first reports of the philanthropist’s relationship with the journalist date back to November 2022, shortly after her divorce from Bill Gates. At the time, they were said to have been dating for a few months already, and they were even spotted together at a basketball game between the Brooklyn Nets and the Boston Celtics earlier in the year.
However, despite the speculation, a spokesperson for Melinda French Gates confirmed to PEOPLE that the philanthropist is neither engaged nor in a relationship with Jon Du Pre. This statement comes after Melinda French Gates was seen wearing a significant diamond ring on her right ring finger during an outing in New York City.
This relationship with Jon Du Pre follows the highly publicized divorce of Melinda French Gates and Bill Gates after 27 years of marriage. Their divorce was finalized in August 2021, three months after announcing their separation. In a joint statement on social media, they expressed their intention to continue working together within their foundation while asking for space and privacy for their family.
Since their separation, Bill Gates has also moved on to a new relationship with Paula Hurd, the widow of former Oracle CEO Mark Hurd. Their relationship was confirmed in February 2023, although they were spotted together at several sporting events in the preceding months, including the Laver Cup in September 2022 and the Australian Open in January 2023.
