Sahara occidental : les USA choisissent le Maroc plutôt que l’Algérie

Sur le sujet du Sahara occidental, les États-Unis ont choisi leur camp. En effet, à la faveur d’un déplacement effectué par le patron de la diplomatie marocaine aux États-Unis, le secrétaire d’État américain, Antony Blinken, a fait savoir que l’administration américaine soutient le plan d’autonomie présenté par le Maroc. Pour le patron de la diplomatie américaine, la proposition marocaine est « sérieuse, crédible et réaliste ».

«Les États-Unis continuent de considérer le plan d’autonomie du Maroc comme une position sérieuse, crédible et réaliste qui a le potentiel de répondre aux aspirations du peuple du Sahara occidental », a déclaré Antony Blinken face à son homologue marocain Naser Burita. Il a également profité de cette occasion pour réaffirmer le plein soutien de son pays à l’envoyé de l’ONU, Staffan de Mistura, dans ses efforts pour parvenir à « une solution politique durable et digne » au conflit.

Alger favorable à un référendum

Cette rencontre a également été une occasion pour les deux pays de revenir sur l’état de leur relation. « Le Maroc a fait preuve de leadership en travaillant à la normalisation (des liens) avec Israël et dans des domaines d’une grande importance pour le monde, y compris le changement climatique et l’énergie renouvelable, où le Maroc a été un véritable leader », a déclaré le Secrétaire d’État américain avant la rencontre avec son homologue marocain Naser Burita. Pour l’heure, entre l’Algérie et le Maroc, ce n’est pas le parfait amour. Depuis août 2021, les relations diplomatiques ont été rompues. Alger est opposé au plan marocain et prône avec le Front Polisario,l’organisation d’un référendum sur l’indépendance du peuple sahraoui.

La Chine veut devancer les USA dans ce domaine
